Digging for Fossils in Fossil

We had a jam packed Memorial Day weekend, full of fun times and excitement!

We started out the weekend seeing the AMAZING production of Phantom of the Opera. I love the music, I love the story, I love everything about it and seeing it live was wonderful. They did such a great job. The phantom was played by this guy that won The Voice and he was sooo good.

The next day we got up bright and early to head out to Condon and meet up with Jon's dad and Uncle John. To our surprise Aunt Lexie was there too!

We had a yummy lunch down town before heading to the cemetary.

We saw some places where Jon's dad lived and went to school. We also saw an old abandoned Air Force Base

From there we headed over to Fossil. On the way we stopped to see "Granny's Cave" this is where Jon's 2nd Great Grandparents Augusta Dras and George Metteer stayed the night. They would drive freight in their wagon from Condon to Fossil. Today you have to look way down from the highway to see the cave. Back in those days the old highway was lower down at the level of the cave.

We then went to the cemetary in Fossil

It was so hot we stopped at this cute store to get some water

We saw the little school house that reminded me of the little school house Laura Ingalls went to.

We also checked out the museum that had so many cool old things.

You can't go to Fossil without digging for fossils!

We had no tools and spent only about 20 minutes digging but we found some. They are kind of hard to see in pictures but here are some

This is my wanna be arrow head... Although I know it's probably just a rock...

On our way back to Condon we stopped by these rocks that had some old Native American writing/drawings.

There were some beautiful views on the way there, while we were there and on the way back.

The next day we took my dad to The Ram for his birthday lunch.

Afterwards we went to take flowers to my great grandparents and a few other relatives at the Rose City Cemetary.

We had such an eventful weekend! And this weekend it's back to working on our deck!!

Trains, Races and Museums

We had such a fun, busy time last weekend that we had to take the week to recover to post about it. So here we go!

We started last weekend off by taking a train ride out of Hood River.

We saw some beautiful views.

During the layover in Parkdale we walked around the little town, had some burgers and saw this amazing museum that had some incredible Native American artifacts

These are all rocks made to look like a thanksgiving dinner!

On the trip back we hadn't realized it was going to be a western whiskey theme ride and we got visited by the sherif and some prison escapees. There was also a magician that was awesome!

After the train ride we decided to head over to The Dalles to see the graves of my 3rd great grandparents. We also checked out Main Street for a bit.

The next day before working hard on our new deck in the hot sun, Jon and Gio did a Portland Parks 5k race.

We are now ready for this long weekend to begin!!
